Green Shirt Training Day

At DST, we’re committed to building strong Teams that are peer-led by individuals with lived experience of homelessness. All DST Team Members start off as Yellow Shirts, and some go on to earn the Green Shirt of Team Lead, and some Green Shirts progress even further to earn the Blue Shirt of Shift Manager. Our hope that every Team Member eventually earns the Gray Shirt of Graduate.

Team Members who earn promotions are given the tools they need to succeed as leaders. On April 3, 2023 Green Shirts from Sacramento, West Sacramento, Petaluma, and Modesto gathered for a day of Green Shirt training at the Sam and Bonnie Pannell Community Center in South Sacramento. Our Green Shirts were trained by Chief Program Officer Chris Richardson about what it means to lead with a Growth Mindset, and learned several concrete strategies to implement on shift when managing conflicts. Direct Service Lead Janice Bonello provided conflict resolution and deescalation training as well as strategies for how to safely administer Narcan.

We want to extend a special thank you to Sacramento Mayor Pro Tem Mai Vang of District 8 for supporting our Green Shirts with lunch catered by La Barca.
