“A year and a half later, Downtown Streets Team has moved over fifty homeless creek dwellers into permanent housing. Dozens more have begun working full-time… A star was born” - Mayor Sam Liccardo, San Jose
Working in the Capital of Silicon Valley
Our San Jose Team is making a huge environmental impact in partnership with the Environmental Service Department, working along the waterways of San Jose to improve water-flow and water quality. We are also visible in neighborhoods and downtown, creating safe places for people to live and play.

Santa Clara Valley Water District / City of San Jose
Team Members volunteer to beautify the banks and streets surrounding the Guadalupe River, Los Gatos Creek, and Coyote Creek, all while engaging unhoused residents into lives of stability.
Encampment Housing Project
Staff conducts outreach to unhoused individuals in concentrated City of San Jose encampments, in an effort to assist work ready residents with temporary rental subsidies. The goal of the program is for participants to sustain financial rental responsibilities as they earn an increased income.

In July of 2011, we expanded our model to the Capital of the Silicon Valley: San Jose. Spearheaded by San Jose Councilmember Sam Liccardo and in collaboration with United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), San Jose Environmental Services Department, Destination: Home, eBay Foundation, and Santa Clara Valley Water District, the goal was to use our model to clean up a badly impaired portion of Coyote Creek and also reach out to over 100 people living there in encampments. The project is called Clean Creeks, Healthy Communities and has been a huge success. In just one year, our San Jose Team exceeded our year-long objectives 10X over.
Join the Team
To join our team, prospective volunteers must attend our Weekly Success Team Meetings every Wednesday. Once a space opens, they are invited to accept the shift and join the Team.
